Saint Peter
Feast day: June 29
Patron of fishermen, popes, and the universal Church
Life
A Galilean fisherman and the first to confess Jesus as the Christ, Peter was renamed by the Lord: 'Upon this rock I will build my Church.' He denied Christ three times yet was restored by the sea of Tiberias and charged to feed the sheep. He preached at Pentecost, led the early Church, and was, according to tradition, crucified head-downward in Rome under Nero.
Prayer
Saint Peter, pray that we may love the Lord as you did — even in our weakness — and stand firm as living stones of His Church. Amen.
